6 Places to Make You Forget You Have Responsibilities
OH HI, it’s me, @hungryholls. It’s now reaching the 90's out here in the middle of America. People are avoiding patios, and red wine drinkers who typically turn their nose up at anything cold and bubbly suddenly want rosé. Yet, Nashvillians are still wearing black jeans and drinking hot coffee. You know who you are. I’ve been a little nostalgic about summertime recently. It used to mean hangin’ at the beach, gettin’ a tan, push-up pops and a good ole neighborhood pick up game of four-square. And what do we have now? Responsibilities. UGH. What torture. But one of the reasons I really love to go experience new restaurants and bars is to have a few hours with some good pals, try new things, enjoy each other's company, and forget about the laundry list of things you have to do. So this here blog is a list of places that really set that summertime aesthetic. So grab ya homies and go get some apps and cocktails before you blink and it’s September.
Ah, white space, oysters, a loungey corner and community table bar space. I honestly love Henrietta Red for all seasons, but somethin’ bout seafood and summatime gets me excited. And oh my gosh. Have you seen their Jell-O shots? Let’s get wild but still look like adults.
Bartaco
How could I resist? Spicy margs, secret tacos, and that Southern California VIBE. I know we all want to sit on the patio, but the inside doesn’t disappoint either. Meaning, yes, there’s still great lighting for all your taco pics. Personal favorites: falafel taco, roasted duck taco, spicy cucumber salad, pork tamale, and the porchester reviver cocktail AKA cucumber lime refreshing delicious -- don’t fear gin y’all. Let’s party.
YASSSS. Arguably the best part about this bar are the two swings that hang inside. And no, swinging is not overrated, still very fun. Their cocktails are affordable and decorated with sweet little flowers. Lots of plant vibes going on in here, it doesn’t succ (badoom tsss). Go hang with a Beets by Dr. D; a pretty pink drink made with beet juice and mezcal. I recently saw on their Instagram story that they have a new food menu including a pork banh mi. Yes plz.
I have never boogied so hard. This tiki jungle-esque bar on the backend of Falcon Coffee (also amaze) is inside a renovated old church and is made for all you dancin’ kweens. Like actually, can I get married here? Their cocktails got that vacation vibe. A few with the coconut, the pineapple, the mango.. you get it. Also, every Wednesday they have live latin inspired dance performances. Let your emoji shine! 💃 They encourage everyone to keep their phones in their pockets and talk to each other, so feel free to dance your ass off and not have to worry about ending up on anyone's story.
AYE AYE CAPTAIN. Sometimes I like to forget Nashville is seven hours from the deep blue sea. Saltine has ya feelin’ like you’re poolside at the beach so ya know, best of both worlds. Give Nashville a raw bar happy hour, and the people will come. $1.50 oysters and $5 wine, see ya there. I went for brunch recently and got the Ipswich fried clam roll and oh mah god, it was everything a New England native wanted and more. #Toasted #Buns.
Cafe Roze
(n) vemodalen: the frustration of photographing something amazing when thousands of identical photos already exist. Kind of how I feel about that one corner (pictured below) by the bar at Cafe Roze. But honestly, great job design team- that’s a beautiful corner. This cozy but airy, perfectly pink cafe has a KILLER happy hour, $5 wine yall! So find an outfit that doesn't clash with pink and head to Cafe Roze. Lots of yummy, light eats, but also not shy in the meat category. That grass fed burger tastes like your dad made it in the backyard, AKA the best.
